Important

After purchasing an app from Google Play, you’ll have 15 minutes to return it. Please use those 15 minutes to test if the original, untranslated Dai Gyakuten Saiban (DGS) works on your device before you use Iris to patch it.

If DGS does not run on your device, then The Great Ace Attorney (TGAA) will also fail to run. Please consider returning it if so.

Additionally, because there are many different Android devices and versions, we cannot guarantee that Iris will run on all configurations. If our app fails to run on your device, please let us know.

There may be license verification errors if you have four or more Google accounts active on your device, these are unrelated to our patch and we recomment removing and readding them to make the game work.

IrisMobile is our new companion app for Android. Its purpose is to patch our Android projects, display translation notes on-the-go, and some other features we have yet to reveal.

You can get the latest release of IrisMobile from the Release GitHub page.

Because Iris will download the latest available patches, an internet connection is required to apply the patch. However, there’s no need for an active internet connection to read the Translation Notes or to uninstall the patch and revert to the original game.

Please note that Iris will not remove Google Play Store DRM from any of the games which we support. We support legally purchased copies only.

Reporting Bugs

If you are affected by a bug preventing Iris from working correctly, we would like to hear from you. Please use the “Copy Bug Report” button from the error message and make an issue report on GitHub, making sure to provide the bug report you copied earlier. Alternatively, the most recent bug report will be saved in “/ScarletStudy/IrisMobile/error.log” so you can upload that file directly.

Compatibility

We have tested Iris on a variety of smartphones and tablets, but we cannot predict compatibility if you have installed a highly customized Android ROM.

If you want to play the patch on your PC, BlueStacks has been tested and confirmed to work, other emulators will likely work too, but we haven’t tested the patch on anything else other than BlueStacks.

Update: Since BlueStacks v4.30.53, the random crashes have been severely reduced, some users are no longer experiencing crashes as well. We recommend updating your BlueStacks to that version or any other later versions.

Note that a bug exists in Bluestacks versions 3N and 4 Beta which causes both DGS and TGAA to occasionally crash while trying to play any sound effect. BlueStacks 3 (KitKat) does not contain this bug.

These crashes are not especially frequent, but upon crashing your auto-saved snapshot will be gone, and you could lose your progress as a result. If you’re going to play on BlueStacks versions 3N or 4 Beta, we recommend saving the game regularly. A crash could happen as often as every 10-15 minutes.

Save Data

The Great Ace Attorney uses a different location than DGS to store its save data, so it won’t overwrite or carry over the save data of the original Japanese game.

Because of that, TGAA’s save data will remain on your device even after uninstalling Iris, DGS, or TGAA.

If you wish to manually create a backup of the save data, it is stored in the folder “/ScarletStudy/Saves/DGS1”.

Applying our Translation Patch to DGS

After purchasing and downloading DGS from the Google Play Store, you can patch it simply by opening Iris and following the onscreen instructions. For reference, here are the steps you will follow:

  • Check that you have an active internet connection.
  • Recommended: Make sure you are using Wi-Fi and not a data plan.
  • Open Iris. When it is ready, click “Apply Patch”.
  • The patching process will begin. Depending on your device, it could take up to 20 minutes.
  • When the process is nearly complete, you will be asked to confirm the uninstallation of DGS (大逆転裁判). Please do so.
  • A few seconds later, you will be asked to install The Great Ace Attorney. Confirm this as well.
  • When this operation completes successfully, you may close Iris.

TGAA has now been installed. Additionally, DGS has been backed up, should you want to restore the game to its original Japanese.

Uninstalling Only the Translation Patch

If you want to uninstall TGAA but keep DGS, please follow these steps:

  • Open Iris. In this case, there’s no need for an internet connection.
  • When Iris is ready, click “Restore Original Game”.
  • You will shortly be asked to confirm uninstallation of The Great Ace Attorney. Confirm this.
  • A few seconds later, you will be asked to install DGS (大逆転裁判). Confirm this as well.
  • When this operation complete successfully, you may close Iris.

You now have the original, untranslated DGS installed.

Uninstalling TGAA Completely

If you want to fully uninstall TGAA, you must first uninstall the translation patch as outlined in the previous section. After this, you may then uninstall DGS normally. Failing to remove the translation patch first could corrupt Iris data, requiring a manual fix. Please follow these steps for a full uninstallation:

  • Open Iris. In this case, there’s no need for an internet connection.
  • When Iris is ready, click “Restore Original Game”.
  • You will shortly be asked to confirm uninstallation of The Great Ace Attorney. Confirm this.
  • A few seconds later, you will be asked to install DGS (大逆転裁判). Confirm this as well.
  • When this operation complete successfully, you may close Iris.
  • Uninstall DGS as you would typically uninstall any other app.

Both DGS and its translation patch should now be uninstalled. If you wish to patch DGS again, you’ll need to redownload it from the Google Play Store.

Fixing Corrupted IrisMobile Data

Sometimes, you may end up with corrupted IrisMobile data (separate from DGS data, such as save games) that could prevent you from applying newer translation patches or restoring the untranslated DGS. This could happen for a few reasons:

  • You uninstalled TGAA manually.
  • Iris crashed during the final steps of the patching or restoration processes.
  • You closed Iris during the patching or restoration processes.
  • A 3rd-party app has modified your TGAA installation or your Iris data.

In any case, you can fix the corrupted data by following these steps:

  • Uninstall DGS or TGAA, whichever is applicable.
  • Make sure that you have a file explorer installed on your device.
  • Navigate to the “/ScarletStudy” folder.
  • Delete the “IrisMobile” folder.

Iris should now read the installed version of DGS correctly. If you want to apply the translation patch again, you will need to download DGS from the Google Play Store, then use Iris to patch it normally.
